Because the revolutionary left completely collapsed along with the Soviet Union after 1991, but Trotskyist parties collapsed less. Because Trotsky predicted the eventual restoration of capitalism in the USSR (albeit on a much shorter timeframe than what actually happened), Trot groups were wheeze through this period of reaction with fantasies of the "Red 90s" whereas other Leninist groups became disillusioned and faded away.
