Line 3 is a tar sands pipeline that’s running 1,097 miles from Edmonton in Alberta Canada all the way to Superior in Wisconsin USA. Enbridge, the company placing this pipeline, is responsible for the largest inland oil spill in history. All of their pipelines leak and their corporation is notorious for under-maintaining their lines. The line is in progress of being constructed and has already polluted hundreds of miles of wetlands, rivers, lakes, and even aquifers along its path with toxins and carcinogenic chemicals. It will affect the fresh water supply for millions of people of all kinds.

Why should you care? If the scale of pollution doesn’t move you, then I’ll have you know, the pipeline goes right across my family’s land in Mahnomen county in Minnesota. Land my family has settled and farmed for over 120 years. The pipeline is planned to go straight through me and my late grandfather’s favorite fishing lake before he was hit by a drunk driver, if that wasn’t tragic enough. My entire family lives there and they live on the well water from the ground in every single household. This is land my brother and I are expected to one day inherit and take care of.
I’m not of any indigenous descent, but I stand by their struggle to protect the land, because it’s been made very, very personal.
We all need your help. So I ask you, I beg you, sign the petition to stop line 3.

I support your cause, but a petition never changed a hill of beans in this world. If you wanna make a stand, start obstructing the corporation.

well, right now they're trying to build in

thanks for sharing anon. I saw the photos of their spill last week near old camp firelight. there's been some civil disobedience which seems to be slowing it significantly.

For people who don't know, the MN Department of Commerce was opposed to building this. It serves no purpose other than forcing people to use the dirtiest oil for another 50 years. Governor Walz is spineless and approved it.

Honestly, I care more about it poisoning people’s water than some sob story about your farmland. It’s a travesty, but we’re not your personal army, and your petition’s not gonna amount for jack. Organize with your community and take collective action.

Yeah that petition is just slacktivism. You need to get physical bodies to obstruct that construction, so you better start organizing them.

Reminder most of these pipeline segments end up getting around environmental impact assessments through executive orders. That fucker Obama actually approved dozens of these tar sand to gulf coast segments at the same time the media was pretending the Keystone XL segment was the only line that mattered.

If you want to be morally right you have to oppose the pipeline, but realize that winning means making the line unprofitable with all kinds of stuff like doing guerilla tactics and material sabotage on such a scale that fighting against you, costs the company more than the potential profits of the line. Especially capitalists in fossil fuel exploitation industry usually show no willingness to compromise unless they are physically forced to.

If you want to safeguard your personal interests with reasonable effort and risk find a different company that builds higher quality pipelines that don't leak and get them to fund a political takeover of the project. You might loose the good fight but you'll probably won't get chemical-spilled. I don't know anything about pipelines, but I assume that a high quality pipeline that has regular leakage detection robots go through the inside of the line once or twice a year, do not have any leaks. I mean it's a long tube, it ought to be possible to do that right.
