Regardless of the reality of things, the prevailing bourgeois "wisdom" is that proles are lazy and need to be "encouraged" to work, and this "labor shortage" is proof that if benefits are too generous then the poors will stop making them money. Covid relief means poverty relief, and relief from poverty means less profits for porky.
That's the root of all these attempts to "return to normal" and try to declare the pandemic over. Porky doesn't want any more relief for working people because all their wealth and power is predicated on it, and they don't care how many working people die because there's always more where that came from.
