There's homelessness in every state of the US. As for why Califas in particular has a lot of homelessness, it's unironically the climate. Unlike in many other states of the US, even in the peak of winter it never gets hypothermia level deadly cold at night in southern CA, so homeless people from lots of other states migrate and make the trek west to southern CA's Mediterranean climate. Of course, homelessness shouldn't exist at all, in any state, which is why we are socialists fighting for a Marxist program of guaranteed housing along with other social rights (like full employment, free education through university, etc etc… the whole enchilada).

I wouldn’t agree that California is the best state but it is certainly up there. It’s essentially the center of capitalism and labor movement. Just as Marx and Engels stated, cities are the center of both bourgeois and proletarian movement and so they are both in flux and development in those centers. The worst states in America are the midwestern flyovers which don’t show any movement and are stagnant places that are truly rotting in terms of social development. It makes sense that the Midwest is the center of stagnant ideas and stagnant development.
