Eh, I think the author puts too much stock into the idea that the Chapo guys are spending hours crafting the perfect episode, rehearsing the jokes, triple checking each others sources - its literally just a group of smart asses joking around. I enjoy Chapo sometimes, but no one should consider them some kind of font of knowledge - at best you can check out something they're plugging or have a 'really makes you think' moment you forget about shortly after.

And again, with the vulgarity, something that never seems to penetrate the brains of these media pundits is that its not some kind of targeted act that corrupts the minds of the impressionable - in reality there are many people like us who actually talk like this and see the world this way. Not tearing Trump down but shitting on Biden is not contradictory to a leftist if you understand our beliefs - Trump is a clown running on a conservative ticket - Biden is a conservative running on a 'progressive' ticket. Why does their response shock and surprise this guy?

In terms of the current 'nihilism' - I'd say its more a return to form than anything. Sanders got some people's hopes up (rightly or wrongly) and now he's got no real chance the left has refractured to where it was pre-2016. This 'fatalist nihilism' is not something new, this is how many people feel and have felt since at least the fall of the USSR, if not the era of McCarthyism.

Certainly not a Chapo simp, but I think I have a better grasp on where they're coming from than this guy.

Can't say I agree. I used to listen to them with every release (their free stuff anyway) but since the election I've just dipped in and out. They definitely feel less focused and self indulgent. I listened to their 500th episode and it was hot fucking garbage.
These days I prefer to listen to the stuff Matt does, he seems to be the only one still interested in any kind of meaningful analysis and not being a pitiful asshole like Will and Felix.

I just think it got a little friend simulatory and like, one particular episode they were basically just dragging this conservative news caster for like 20 minutes, not really analysis just like, bitchy personal comments. Then a week later or something they had a zizek episode but it was paywalled. Pissed me off. It all started to remind me of when I lived with art school kids. Some of their episodes where they do dives on stuff are pretty good but it’s too much chatter for me in between. I’m also happy to pay for stuff but if I am I want to actually be learning.

I listened to Christmans thing a lot over the first big lockdown last year, just kinda for want of anything else to do. For opinionstube it’s okayish, but I never felt like I was learning new facts like I would with revleft radio or trueanon or moderate rebels or something

A large, ostensibly focused group of people who fail to achieve a larger political project and then are split over a divisive issue (GamerGate/BLM and Bernie's loss). The movement degenerates and adherents either re-orient towards mainstream liberalism, become secular right-wingers repudiating their former comrades, or burn out and give up.

Let's be clear here. If you make fun of a vulnerable girl for vaping, which Texas did, this is sexual assault. And when you then later start vaping yourself, this is two sexual assaults.
