Is being a technophobe or luddite really just a distorted form of class consciousness? Technological advances usually have their benefits accrue to capitalists first. So workers blame the machine and not the class/force behind it, because the machine is the face or presentation of the inhuman nature of capitalism itself

>the machine is the face or presentation of the inhuman nature of capitalism itself
It's more than that. The machine is capitalism incarnate. The essence of the machine is capturing the powers of nature and turning them into quantifiable units. By this very same process capitalism reduces social relations to quantifiable commodities. It is not a coincidence that the modern natural sciences and capitalism were born at the same time.

First things first The original Luddites were not technophobia at all but a highly organised working class cell who were not objecting to the technology per se, but to the regimes of low pay and low standard that the owners of the looms were enforcing.

The Luddite=technophobia label is pure propaganda

A big part of it is, but there are definitely some people that would still hate machines even when living in the most ideal communist society.

Pejoratively? No. Historically? Yes. In fact some Marxists have actually benefited from looking at the Luddites for reference in their analyses and critiques of Big Tech. Read Gavin Mueller, Johan Söderberg and Maxigas.
