I wanna understand how that site descended from an obscure mostly liberal imagebboard that could discuss politics with a varied amount of humor to a cesspit of botting, bait and shill posting that's actually more popular than most communities on reddit with a userbase that's so politically 1 sided that it feels like only 1 or a few like minded people browse and run the entire site. Around 70% the catalog of /pol/ in it's current state is anti vax propaganda and the rest is almost exclusive to id/pol/ faggotry, how did that place reach this point and is it possible for them to recover?

This has been the case ever since industrialization. This is why some of those libertarians are completely insane in that they are pure reactionaries that want to return to America of 1820s-1850s when the small artisan was getting his ass kicked by industrialization in the north and the big banks and paper money advocates culminating in Jacksonianism. As an ancient fag I've lived to see 4chan as a whole go through 3 extermination events in which nearly all oldfags would come to get replaced by new users and the 3rd one for /pol/ was trumps election, the first 1 was the creation of rage comics which started pushing stormfaggotry on /pol/ hard leading to the creation of memes like moonman, it got less extreme but as time progressed the site became cancerous as all that edgyness attracted old stormfront users from the 90s whose board died because it was too politically extreme and the feds were kinda sick of how many terrorists plots and militias kept forming from the site, unsurprisingly they took refugee to spread their propaganda on /pol/ and since the late 2000s I believe the site as a whole has been a cesspit of id/pol/ faggotry

Pol in it's current state has more active users than most subreddits and is the most active board, however a majority of posts are made by a small demographic of that active userbase much like twitter(cool fact 3% of Twitters userbase account for 40-80% of all posts) because of this the board is largely unpopular among the rest of 4chan as 4channel users and ordinary 4chan users show discontempt for /pol/s extremism, this naturally drives away most of its longtime users and as time progresses the board naturally becomes less and less popular unless a major event occurs.
To put it simply
/pol/ will die the way stormfront did and inevitably it will either get flooded with users that are less extreme or it will simply die with nothing to left to show for it and become as frequently used as boards like pets and animals or auto
