I'm a NEET on NEETbux, I'm honestly not very political but I would like to know /leftypol/ opinion about NEET's (and lumpenproletariat in general)

I feel good knowing that I don't have to work to serve porky interests.

Can I just get a commie block with Vidya and anime and a bit of NEETbux after the revolution?

Reminder that even the Black Hammer City planned to obligate all able citizens to work towards the cause of the construction of socialism, and almost every actual socialist state also did that in their various constitutions.

Only the sheltered firstoid and others doped on academic wankeries can somehow delude themselves into the belief that automation and the continued imperial exploitation of the noncore states in the World System mean that it's viable to promote the antiwork bullshit.

Labour is what makes the world go.
>>

 No.389674

if you can work then you are obliged to work
if you are incapable of working, or have reduced ability to work, or can only work with a narrow set of things, then this can be accommodated

I have all these same issues, yet I work. or, I take sertraline for my depression, so that's not too much of a hindrance.

Not to sound like the idealist of the thread but I think the rest of the anons are just being hardliners.
Communist revolution will bring with it two changes- fundamental changes to our relationship with what is considered "work" and complete changes to what/how much we produce and how it's distributed. Overall, seeing as we're already at a level of industrialization where we overproduce a bunch of commodities and food in the first world, we're probably looking at work hour reductions all around for everyone, even when we consider distributing these goods to people who couldn't afford them before and ending our exploitation in imperialized countries.

You could probably continue living like a NEET if you show you're disabled and can't contribute, but really, it's hard to just do nothing "productive", even with consoomer commodities like vidya and anime to binge all day. At least I think COVID has proved that humans aren't hardwired to just "do nothing". It's what we desire now, because global capitalism is that much of an alienating force that tries to keep us as exhausted as possible, but we all can find fulfillment through labor when we're allowed to reap the full value of what we create and work for without sacrificing our bodies and social life, and the revolution will surely introduce opportunities for you to find work that's that aligns with what you find enjoyable and fulfilling.

Here is a direct quote from the 18th brumaire which describes the Lumpenprolatariat
"On the pretext of founding a benevolent society, the lumpen proletariat of Paris had been organized into secret sections, each section led by Bonapartist agents, with a Bonapartist general at the head of the whole. Alongside decayed roués with dubious means of subsistence and of dubious origin, alongside ruined and adventurous offshoots of the bourgeoisie, were vagabonds, discharged soldiers, discharged jailbirds, escaped galley slaves, swindlers, mountebanks, lazzaroni,[105] pickpockets, tricksters, gamblers, maquereaux [pimps], brothel keepers, porters, literati, organ grinders, ragpickers, knife grinders, tinkers, beggars — in short, the whole indefinite, disintegrated mass, thrown hither and thither, which the French call la bohème;"
As you clearly see there are Lumpen who do work for their income

It doesn't produce any economic value. We're talking about people that would go around begging people to pay them to do this menial task for them, like shoe shiners or window cleaners at a stoplight. They aren't making anything new, just cleaning something that real labor has already made useful.

No. A tool used by individuals in their own home for their own purposes is not a tool of production. I could make a five star meal in my kitchen, it has no economic value if I just eat it in private.
That's besides the point anyway. The point is that these people were not workers doing something useful, but beggars using the veneer of labor to get more money from people. They would have worked on a brand new blade just as much as a worn out one, their work had no /intrinsic/ value.

At least I don't spend my days talking in memes. I didn't say I was going insane; just that it was interesting. Although I can't say my time as a NEET hasn't affected my mental health—it certainly has, just not in the overly dramatic sense some people were crying about last year. I've realized that if I ever meet up with old friends and inevitably get asked what I've been up to it'd probably be easier to just lie and say I've been in jail for 3 years, lol.
>>393404
I don't see a significant distinction between the two, honestly; to say otherwise seems unproductive especially from a rhetorical standpoint. 'NEET' and 'Hikikomori' are both words used to describe a certain element of the relative surplus population. A lot of vulgar Marxists don't like to frame it that way, instead preferring kneejerk 'workerist' reactions (as evidenced by this thread, or every thread here on the NEET question).
>>

 No.393539

>>393492
Most people become NEETs because they're tired of being immiserated for the sake of wage labor. 'Hikikomori' was first seriously observed as a phenomena in Japan after the 1989 financial crisis. During their subsequent 'Lost Decade' precarious labor was the new normal. There was even a word to describe those who went from temp job to temp job—'Freeters' they were called. If you see where I'm going with this, I feel like something similar happened here in the US after the 2008 financial crisis with advent of the 'Gig Economy'. Japan's Freeters were the Gig Workers of their time, and as a result it shouldn't come as a surprise that we've seen an increased 'acute social withdrawal' among the masses here too.

To be fair lumpenproletariat can be revolutionary subjects. The BPP and also to and extent Hugo Chavez drew on their masses to do revolutionary work, and arguably through the history of communism most of the work of revolution was actually accomplished through not so proletarian subjects, like peasants or lumpenproletarians. Of course, their relations to production meant they were not always the most optimal, but then again the conditions have now become different, so perhaps it'll happen again that the proletariat proper is not the primary revolutionary base.
