2. Esperanto would need some major government support to spread. China is the most obvious candidate and already give some suppprt, but will test the waters of spreading their own language first and only use Esperanto if Chinese doesn't work.
3. People keep saying that pidgin English removes the need for Esperanto. This is a bit nonsensical. Esperanto is a language open for experimentation and different forms. Pidgin English will always be looked down upon and be a signifier of class. Unless Anglos can bear in their heart to see a business partner violate their grammar (they can't), Pidgin English will always be seen as inferior, low-class, illiterate.
Let's see how the Chinese language fairs in Africa first. That will be the proving grounds of whether English can be replaced as the lingua franca.
