The proper language to learn for internationalists in the 20th century was Russian.

The proper language to learn for internationalists in the 21th century is Chinese.

This makes the esperantofag seethe.

We have an Esperanto thread on /hobby/ that you can join.

Esperanto hasn't been as popular as in previous times. Its main pockets are China and Latin America right now. Chinese government supports radio shows and news in Esperanto.

However, Esperanto as a concept gets people seething on this board.

>This makes the esperantofag seethe.

Unnecessarily hostile, as always. What if I tell you many Chinese are learning Esperanto?
As opposed to you, I can speak and write Chinese, and I will tell you that Chinese will have a hard time being the world's lingua franca unless the pinyinization is Chinese is completely finished and entirely romanized, which Mao advocated for but didn't happen and sure won't happen now.

China teaches Chinese in Africa and many learn it, but it is magnitudes of order more difficult than learning Esperanto, especially if you were to write characters by hand.

I predict that as Chinese gets learned by more people, China will realize that it in order to have the world's lingua franca, they would either need to reform Chinese (which is unthinkable IMO given its rich history and the traditions they carry), accept English or go over to promote Esperanto more.

The Chinese government is one of the few governments in the world who bother to sponsor Esperanto media. Why is this the case?

Thanks, comrade. I will keep it in mind.
As far as the OP goes: I would welcome Esperanto getting more popular. It takes a German student about 1500h to be fluent in English and only 150h to be fluent in Esperanto. Now consider that German and English are related languages - it would take a student in an unrelated language even longer to learn English. It is unfair that some people have to spend 1500, 2500, 3500 hours of their lives to learn a language while Americucks can just sit back and relax. Esperanto is in so far a useful language for true neutrality. Furthermore, a lot of the Esperanto community is left-leaning, and there are also plenty of socialists, communists and anarchists there.

George Soros is a native Esperanto speaker but let's not get into that…um…..

It would make more sense to learn a few widely spoken languages. Learning esperanto is a waste of time.
>>

>>388325
You can do both. Learning Esperanto fluently (and I mean high-level fluency) takes about 150h, which is nothing for a language. You will be able to have normal conversations after a few lessons, which is impossible in any other language (unless it's highly related to one you already know).

My thoughts after reading this thread

>Learning esperanto

It's easy to learn, but even so it's not worth it unless there is a serious effort put into translating literally everything into Esperanto. Maybe an international project that get resources of many governments.
>learning Chinese
maybe the Pinyin version but normal Chinese characters, that's only worth it if you plan on living in China
>Lojban
Arguably the language with the best design that makes it much clearer than any other language, but it creates tediously long sentences. It's probably the best language for a true natural language human machine interface. It's culturally neutral, that makes it an excellent choice for preventing misunderstanding in diplomacy or law. This will definitely be a thing once we build our first interstellar civilization.
>Chinglish and Hinglish
The borked version of English that Chinese and Indian respectively, speak.
It could be that this leads to a big mashup where even native English speaking countries will over time adopt many words and phrases with Chinese or Hindu origins, because the semi-English nature of these makes the barrier for cross-over much lower.
This can be incredibly poetic like
>Stay off the lawn - Do not disturb, tiny grass is dreaming
Or incredibly rude like
>Gentleman's club - spread to fuck the fruit
If this becomes the world language, it's basically going to kill grammar and or semantic structure, where people sound like they speak the same language but they can hardly understand each other.

1. Marx and Lenin classics are all available in Esperanto, as are most classics of world literature.

2. Esperanto would need some major government support to spread. China is the most obvious candidate and already give some suppprt, but will test the waters of spreading their own language first and only use Esperanto if Chinese doesn't work.

3. People keep saying that pidgin English removes the need for Esperanto. This is a bit nonsensical. Esperanto is a language open for experimentation and different forms. Pidgin English will always be looked down upon and be a signifier of class. Unless Anglos can bear in their heart to see a business partner violate their grammar (they can't), Pidgin English will always be seen as inferior, low-class, illiterate.

Let's see how the Chinese language fairs in Africa first. That will be the proving grounds of whether English can be replaced as the lingua franca.

>Esperanto
No. A very superficial and Euro-centric language.
I think as we unite and globalize, an international language can naturally evolve based on a mix of all languages that optimizes the expression of thoughts, and ideas.
Or we could be speaking Mandarin in a hundred years. Who know?
>>

 No.390395

As long as a country has supremacy over a language, a widespread pidgin will not be accepted.

I was gonna make my post here in esperanto but I feel like it would be a little ridiculous since every post here is in english.

I learned esperanto not very long ago, and I highly recommend it. It takes a startlingly little amount of time. I've already moved on to learning spanish. If you're dedicated you can become conversational and be able to understand 100% of most things in just a few months. Learning a language generally is just a really good idea for communists. Especially if you're from an anglo country and only speak english. Communism is an international movement with an international history, and learning another language, and being able to communicate on an even playing field with people from across the world is unbelievably useful. Anything's good, the only bad choice is to learn nothing. But also learn esperanto because it's really fun.
