>>372947So, a few years back the old president Zuma was palace coup'd within the ANC. The difference between Zuma and his replacement, Ramaphosa is basically the two principle wings of the ANC: the pragmatists and the idealists. Zuma built levels of corrupt, cronyistic structures (especially in the state of KZN aka Zululand) that provided pork barrel for a lot of poor, black communities. Ramaphosa is an anti-corruption campaigner that wanted to drive the pragmatists out of the ANC. Zuma was convicted of corruption charges, but refused to reven recognise the court, has fled detention, and has basically called for his supporters (mostly poor, rural and semi-rural blacks) to support him. This conflict actually has basically broken the racial pillarisation of South Africa, as the christian-right boers, liberal anglos & coloureds, middle class indians, working class left, and black nationalists have all united to call for Zuma's arrest. Zuma only has his cronies (which includes much of the ANC in Zululand) and the Inkatha Freedom Party: basically the political wing of the Zulu Monarchy. A lot of lumpen blacks and whites are using this as an excuse for looting and to do general organised crime, which has lead to multiethnic middle class militias forming in KZN.
So yeah, this is a conflict between paternalistic kleptocratic structures versus the forces of both reform and property. A conflict between the native aristocracy, lumpen proletariat & bourgeoisie versus the proletariat, petit-bourgeois, and regular bourgeoisie. Only in South Africa.
