Hi there! I'm sure many of you have heard of the 'Anglo box', but I want to raise awareness about the Siberian box.
The Siberian box is a mindset that derives in part from the subconscious perception of isolation during normal pseudonymous internet interaction reducing social awareness beyond self-interest, combined with the general lack of comprehension, foresight or empathy regarding the operational nature of the imageboard environment and the patterns of its users. This, along with other factors, frequently leads to a preventable self-destructive pattern even without the assistance of additional malicious catalysts ever-present in the namesake's society.
This is an emerging and multifaceted model and thus this initial exploration is crude and informal, however we can already theorize likely remedies.

In a phrase, it appears that most users' approach to a post they don't like actually boosts its exposure, making their own experience on the site substantially worse.

A general basis:
>In normal usage, the imageboard interface inherently draws attention to the most recently 'bumped' threads of each board. Hence, the more a thread is bumped, the more users are exposed to it and the more chance there is of further interaction and bumps.
>In many ways, standard human conversational conventions apply despite pseudonymity and often anonymity. An important result is that in most circumstances, a user is likely to reply to a post that replied to them, as they see it as addressing themselves rather than the mythical 'Anon'.
>Due to this behavior, replying to a post not only bumps the thread but increases the odds of the reply being replied to by its poster, especially if they are challenged or attacked and certainly if they have malicious intent.
Now here's a vital part.
>'Saging' a post only prevents a user's post from bumping the thread. It will not prevent replies from bumping the thread.

Like on many inexperienced sites, the users in the Siberian box state of mind who are psychologically inclined to express their own opinions whenever possible will reply even to threads they don't want to see, potentially believing that saging will negate their gift of attention, or simply not being aware of their impact on the attention economy at play. As a result, negative drama-focused threads (e.g. reactionary 'bait', witch-hunt threads, mockery threads from hostile foreign users) will be sustained by the users who dislike the thread, keeping them consistently at the top of the board, resulting in a positive feedback loop of attention to the most disliked posts.

To escape the Siberian box, current advice is to:
>not respond to threads you disagree with
>remind users who take bait that calling out the bait while taking just makes them 'retards'
>report especially egregious posts to moderators, referencing an actual rule which was broken
>if you believe a response is truly necessary to express disagreement in a fast-paced thread, simply post an image of a cartoon character or stock photo model laughing without any text attached
and most importantly,
>instead of responding, bump comfortable or high-quality threads which are at risk of dying

well the site would suck if we only had 6 threads. It's not their job to decide what's shitty. They're moderators, not curators
