They had to be actively combated through cutural revolution, abolishing capitalist exploitation wasn't enough. In addition, what is the seed of opportunism? Chauvinism, the attitude of the exploiter. Some people are not held back by morality or concern for other people, if there is benefit to be gained materially or to one's social dominance, they will take it. We can see a trend historically where the most vehement counter revolutionaries in socialist socities were also usually quite chauvinistic, and pushing for any advantage of more vulnerable people. It's not necessarily one form of bigotry or anything else but about exploitation of one's fellow man. In order to achive full communism we will have to completely change the eay that people interact with one another, and abolish interpersonal exploitation. Class is the most pressing of these issues,but it is not the only one.
Additionally if I was a women that is facing discrimination today in society, in addition to being a worker, why would I listen to anyone that tells me to stop talking about my issues and focus on class? Learn from what the successful communist parties of the past have done and take note of how full of women they were and how progressive they were in pushing for women's rights and status in their societies
